The Conversion Of Hagia Sophia : Is It A Political Stunt?

Salaam! The Conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque again has sparked debates all over the globe.

Some say it's a move to gain political benefits while others say it's a move done for religious purposes.

In this post I'll be sharing my own views about the conversion of Hagia Sophia back into a mosque.

Is it a political stunt?

Many argue that it's a political stunt by the Turkish president Erdogan to gain back his support which is getting weaker.

Hagia Sophia has seved as a Christian cathedral for approximately 900 years and as a mosque for more than 500 years.

Hagia Sophia was converted into a museum after the secular Turkish republic came into being.

President Erdogan also known as Sultan Erdogan by his strong supporters, relies on his supporters who follow him because of his Islamic statements and actions.

President Erdogan removed the ban on the use of headscarves in public places and he also encouraged Turkish people in being more of 'pro-ottoman' kind of people.

My opinion, as a Muslim

As a Muslim I'd say that Hagia Sophia would have been better as a museum. I believe that Hagia Sophia has served both Christianity and Islam as a church and a mosque respectively for enough time.

Today's era is for the current generation to witness the aura of the magnificent Hagia Sophia.

I have no problem in it being a mosque but, it would've been better as a museum itself.

We're all free to have different opinions and as humans it is our duty to have mutual respect for the differences that we have.

Mixed emotions

The recent ruling of the Turkish legal authority regarding Hagia Sophia have sparked mixed emotions world wide.

There are Muslims and Christians who agree with the decision and there are other Muslims and Christians who are opposing the decision.

Let's maintain peace and brotherhood among ourselves as we're all dealing with the coronavirus together.

Tell me what you guys think about the decision regarding Hagia Sophia. Was it a politically motivated decision or a religious one?

Eyvallah!
